Gulf Wars XXI Food Plan

Thank you for your interest in taking part in the food plan for Gulf Wars XXI. For those who are new to my meal plans, I try to make every attempt to satisfy everyone. However, I am not a short order cook, and can only work so many miracles. To make your dining experience more enjoyable for you and myself, please be thorough when filling out the attached sheet, including likes & dislikes. As for allergies, if you have an unusual, life threatening, or large food allergy please check to make sure I can accommodate you. I currently have adjusted the meal plan to accommodate those with citrus, onion, seafood, and gluten allergies.

FAQ

Q. Is the Kitchen Open for Camp Use?
A. No, all of the equipment in the kitchen is personal property. However, if you need to use something such as a burner to heat up water or coffee, ask, and it will most likely be okay.

Q. You have dinner listed per night, but you usually do a group meal charge?
A. Yes, Gulf is slightly different because I don’t do breakfasts. You can pick and choose which meals you will want to join us for on the sign-up sheet.

Q. What about cleaning duties?
A. Everyone is responsible for bringing and cleaning their own dishes. Me and my camp crew will take care of the cooking dishes, however if you would like to help us out, we would appreciate it. I am willing to comp one person’s meal plan for the war in exchange for all kitchen cleaning duties. Please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are interested.

Q. What about cleaning the cast iron?
A. Cast Iron has very specific cleaning rules- if you would like to learn how to cook and/or clean cast iron, please ask as I would love to teach you.

Q. Is there extra cooler space?
A. As I really only like going shopping 2-3 times per war, every last bit of cooler space is utilized. If you need items refrigerated, please bring your own cooler.

Q. What drinks are supplied?
A. Water, Ice Tea, Tea, and Coffee (decaf & regular + creamer)come with the meal plan. This year I also will have a keg of stout, a keg of Irish red, and table wine available, the cost for the alcoholic beverages are not included in the food plan price, but are a complimentary gift from the kitchen. Please keep in mind that these are table drinks and not party drinks. All other drinks are BYO.

Q. What do I need to bring?
A. Please bring your own plates, drinking cups and silverware. As there is not a group table that I know of, you might want to also have a sitting and eating area planned.

Q. What if I don’t like something you are serving?
A. That is why you want to completely fill out the food questionnaire. If there is something you don’t like, and you let me know ahead of time, I can make you something else for that meal, within reason

Q. What if I have something scheduled during dinner?
A. Let me know ahead of time and I will put a plate away for you or will make sure you have food early (once again within reason)

Q. Do I need to fill out a form for each person?
A. No, you can fill out one form per tent/family/household. Just make sure that all allergies, preferences, ext. are listed on the form.

Q. How can I pay?
A. Once you register, I can send you a link to pay for the deposit through Paypal. You can also mail a check, or pay me at an event. Once on site, I do ask that you do not give me a check for the remainder of the fees.

Q.$8 is a lot per meal- I can get something cheaper at the food court/camp store/feast hall ?
A.  The per meal cost is the average cost of all the weekly meals as determined by using fair market price values (as determined by online grocery store pricing). The cheapest meal is $6.70 for the Chicken and Dumplings and the most expensive meal is the Pork Shoulder with Peach Sauce at $8.30. After each per person pricing per recipe is figured out, additional expenses are added such as the daily bread fund, dessert fund, and incidentals (ice and gas). I try to keep the menus reasonably priced, but I won't cut corners in either the quality of the food, recipes, or the quantity. You can get cheaper food at the food court spending $5 on a sandwich, greasy fries or gravy laddened plate. Or you can spend $8 and get a full meal complete with fresh baked bread, roasted vegetables, and dessert. No one has yet to go hungry, mostly becuase I won't stop cooking until your full.

Q. Where are you camped?
A. This year we are camped in
the  "Abbey of Abandoned Maidens" in the new midrealm royal staff field. I will not be in the Midrealm Encampment, but about 1100 feet to the east of it.

Q. What about Court on Thursday?
A. Dinner will be available early, starting buffet style at 4:30 to allow people to either eat before or during Middle Kingdom's Court.  If the Middle Court time, date, or place changes the meal plan will be altered. In addition, my kitchen has been challenged to a Viking Style Iron Chef competition on Thursday with the food fed to the populace after court. If you hang around in camp, I might taste test on you. If you miss dinner on Thursday, there will be plenty of food available for later.
